Overview

POSITION: Podiatrist

 

DEPARTMENT: General Medicine

 

REPORTS TO: Chief Medical Officer

 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:

 

Diagnose and treat diseases and deformities of the human foot.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. Diagnose diseases and deformities of the foot using medical histories, physical examinations, x-        rays, and laboratory test results.

2. Prescribe medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery.

3. Surgically treat conditions such as corns, calluses, ingrown nails, tumors, shortened tendons,            bunions, cysts, and abscesses.

4. Advise patients about treatments and foot care techniques necessary for prevention of future              problems.

5. Take responsibility for a number of specialist areas of practice working with a variety client groups      (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis/ chronic disease, high risk diabetes, chronic neuropathy, vascular                diseases, wound management/tissue viability, biomechanics, nail surgery).

6. Refer patients to physicians when symptoms indicative of systemic disorders, such as arthritis or        diabetes, are observed in feet and legs during exams.

7. Make and fit prosthetic appliances.

8. Treat bone, muscle, and joint disorders affect the feet and ankles.

9. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise with other staff and disciplines, attend case      conferences, and meetings as appropriate.

10. Develop and maintain good working relationships with team members, hospital staff and                    specialist services to ensure an integrated service for clients.

11. Work independently as well as part of a wider healthcare team.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Doctor of Podiatric Medicine preferred.

2. Preferred experience in trauma cases and rear foot & ankle surgery.

3. Must have a California license and X-Ray / fluoroscopy license.

4. Board Qualified/Certified by American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons with 3 years surgical            residency / fellowship trained preferred.

5. Working knowledge of Spanish is helpful.

6. Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant candidates with a Specialty in Podiatry are                    encouraged to apply.

Full-Time CME Days:

  • Physicians, Pharmacist, Optometrist - $800.00 Annually and 5 Paid CME days.

License Reimbursement:
